Montana-Dakota offers a residential natural gas heating conservation program in the state of Montana. Financial incentives are available to encourage residential consumers to initiate natural gas conservation measures in their homes and are available to Montana-Dakota’s residential natural gas customers in Montana. The following outlines the details of the program.

Montana-Dakota Energy Conservation Programs
Residential Natural Gas Heating Program:
High Efficiency Natural Gas Furnaces: Montana-Dakota residential natural gas customers who replace an 80% or less annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) furnace with a high efficiency natural gas furnace (90% or greater AFUE) qualify for an incentive payment of $150.00.
Programmable Thermostats: Montana-Dakota residential natural gas customers who purchase and install a programmable thermostat, meeting the following criteria, qualify for an incentive payment of $20.
- The programmable thermostat must have at least 4 programmable time periods per day (i.e. wake, leave, return and sleep).
- The programmable thermostat must also allow a separate program schedule for the work week vs. the weekend (i.e. 5-1-1 or 5-2 day programmable).
To apply for the Natural Gas Heating rebate, fill out the following form, include a copy of the dealer sales invoice (with the brand, model number, serial number and installation date) and send it to Montana-Dakota:

Montana State Income Tax Credit: In addition to the incentive paid by Montana-Dakota, Montana homeowners are also eligible for a tax credit to cover a portion of the cost to purchase and install high efficiency heating systems and programmable thermostats that are ENERGY STAR® rated. The credit is 25% of the investment made to improve the energy efficiency of their home, up to a maximum of $500 per year. To apply for the tax credit, the customer must complete and include tax form “ENRG-C” when filing their State Income taxes. The energy conservation credit is allowed only for the year the energy conservation improvements are made. Rebate Payments:
Rebate payments will be issued in the form of a U.S. Bank® Rebate Visa® Card, for residential customers receiving rebates of $1,000 or less. Rebate payments of more than $1,000 will be issued in the form of a check. Montana-Dakota does not issue rebates in the form of a utility bill credit.
The U.S. Bank Rebate Visa Card cannot be reloaded with additional funds, nor can it be used at an ATM (Automated Teller Machine). Terms and conditions apply and other fees may apply to Rebate Cards.
